Though no longer operational, Indramat was once a leader in manufacturing a diverse array of RAC drives across several series. These drives were designed primarily as main spindle drive controllers and utilized advanced microprocessor technology. Renowned for their ability to provide consistent power and exceptional precision at high speeds, they were ideally suited for use in numerically controlled machine tools. Since their production has ceased, these drives are now considered legacy equipment.
The RAC servo drives are particularly adept at supporting high-precision C-axis functions as part of an automatic position control loop. They feature high-resolution feedback systems designed for optimal performance in low-speed tasks. These controllers can pinpoint the motor rotor's position with an impressive resolution of 1/400,000 of a revolution. They also perform exceptionally within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 45°C and can be deployed at altitudes of up to 1000 meters above sea level.
RAC Drive Motor Compatibility
RAC drives work with two specific types of Indramat motors, facilitating precise digital control. The motor types are:
- 1MB Frameless Spindle Motors
- 2AD Asynchronous Main Spindle Motors
Depending on the specific RAC drive series, the motors provide various levels of continuous power output at the shaft. For instance, motors paired with RAC 2 drives deliver continuous power from 30 kW to 52 kW. Motors for RAC 3 drives range from 10 kW to 30 kW in continuous output, and those used with RAC 4 drives offer between 52 kW and 93 kW.
FAQs
What function does the AS programming module serve in a RAC drive?
The AS programming module simplifies the initial setup of the main spindle drive by eliminating the need for preliminary adjustments, provided the drive is properly commissioned and connected. It stores both drive-specific and application-specific settings along with vital software, ensuring that, even in cases of module replacement, no reconfiguration of the controller is needed.
Can Indramat RAC drives be repaired by the user?
Indramat RAC drives are noted for their versatility and exceptional reliability, reducing the likelihood of failure. This reliability means that specific technical expertise is required for repairs, which is not common. Additionally, like other Indramat products, these drives are not designed to be user-serviceable.
