The DM 30K 3301-D servo drive is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the DM Servo Drives series. It acts as the power and control stage for a matched synchronous motor, interpreting motion commands from a PLC and applying regulated current so that the load follows programmed profiles. By incorporating current loops, velocity loops, and position feedback processing, the unit ensures repeatable moves and short settling times, functions that are essential in assembly stations, pick-and-place gantries, and other automated production equipment.

The drive’s communication layer is built around a RS-232 interface, allowing direct laptop access during commissioning and service. Its transfer speed of 9600 bit/s defines how quickly parameter blocks and diagnostic frames move between host and drive. Physical connection is handled through a compact Sub-D socket that carries logic and reference lines across 9 pins, minimizing space on the front panel. Each transmitted character contains 8 data bits, so integer and floating-point values are moved one byte at a time without packing overhead, which simplifies parsing routines inside the firmware.

Installation flexibility is supported by a maximum cable reach of 15 m, permitting the programming terminal to remain outside the electrical enclosure. Data integrity benefits from Even parity checking, which detects single-bit errors before instructions update motion registers. Character framing is extended with 2 stop bits, providing additional guard time for opto-isolated receivers at the drive input. Flow regulation relies on the XON/XOFF software handshake, so no extra hardware control lines are needed, freeing the remaining connector contacts for protective ground or future expansion.
