The KDA 2.1-150-3-AQD-U1 is a spindle drive module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. In a CNC or machining center, this unit converts regulated DC bus power into three-phase motor power and manages rotational speed through analogue and digital references. It integrates power electronics, control logic, and a dedicated heatsink blower supplied from an independent AC source, allowing continuous spindle operation while maintaining compact cabinet layout. The drive forms part of a modular system that shares a common 300 V DC link through a supply unit.

The drive is designed for a continuous output of 150 A, giving it the headroom to run high-power spindle motors at full load without current fold-back. Internally, the power section is fed by a 300 VDC intermediate circuit taken from the machine’s supply converter, so wiring between axes remains simple. A dedicated heatsink fan operates from 115 V/50-60 Hz, isolating blower power from the DC bus and ensuring forced airflow whenever control power is present. Thermal rating supports an ambient range of 5 to 45 °C, which covers typical shop-floor environments. Indramat certifies full performance up to 1000 m installation height; above that derating is required.

Heat removal relies on a mounted heatsink blower that draws air directly across the IGBT stack; together with the drive’s forced cooling mode this prevents thermal saturation during long machining cycles. Motion references enter the controller in two channels: the velocity loop accepts a analogue speed command value, while precision positioning tasks can be driven through a separate position command value, digital interface. By combining both command schemes the KDA unit can switch between coarse speed regulation and fine position control without external converters, matching the flexibility expected in multi-process production cells.
