The KDA 3.1-100-3-LQ0-U1 is a modular power unit produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. Installed in multi-axis cabinets, the unit conditions DC bus energy and feeds three-phase currents to a synchronous or induction spindle, allowing coordinated acceleration, deceleration, and continuous running under CNC control. By matching spindle torque to cutting demands, the module supports stable chip removal, surface finishing, and tool life management within automated milling, turning, and grinding equipment.

The drive operates from a link voltage of 300 VDC, and its power stage is rated for 100 A of continuous output current, allowing it to power large-frame spindles without derating. Thermal energy generated by the IGBT stack is removed through a Mounted Heatsink Blower that pushes air directly across the finned aluminum sink. This airflow is part of a Forced Cooling scheme and is energized by an auxiliary supply of 115V/50-60Hz, so cabinet designers must provide that single-phase source. Together, these electrical and thermal parameters define the drive’s continuous duty envelope and protect semiconductors from over-temperature conditions during prolonged high-speed cutting cycles.

For reliable service in production halls, the unit is specified for operation between 5 to 45 Degrees Celsius and at heights up to 1000M above sea level; outside these limits, current and speed commands must be derated. Speed setpoints enter through the SERCOS Interface, enabling deterministic time-slot communication with the motion controller and eliminating analog noise. Because this variant offers No Additional Interface Option, wiring and firmware resources are focused on the SERCOS channel, simplifying commissioning. These environmental and communication criteria allow the cabinet builder to integrate cooling air paths, EMC filtering, and fieldbus cabling while keeping the overall axis package compact.
