KDA Spindle Drives
The KDA 3.1-150-3-AQS-U1 is a spindle drive module produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for machines that belong to the KDA Spindle Drives series. Version 3 hardware of this line supplies controlled armature current to synchronous or induction spindle motors used on CNC machining centers, turning cells, and similar automatic equipment. By receiving a speed reference from a higher-level controller, it modulates its output to match programmed surface speeds, helping maintain cutting accuracy and surface finish during high-duty production.
Electrical performance is defined by a continuous output of 150 A, allowing the drive to handle large cutting torques without derating. This current is supplied from a regulated bus of 300 VDC, so matching line converters must maintain that level for proper torque response. Thermal management relies on forced cooling, implemented through a mounted heatsink blower that expels waste heat directly at the fin stack and keeps internal semiconductor temperatures within safe limits. The drive accepts an analog speed command, so a ±10 V reference from the numerical control is translated into spindle frequency with minimal latency.
Auxiliary components are powered from a separate blower supply of 115 V/50–60 Hz, isolating the fan circuit from the DC bus. For diagnostics or parameter loading, a dedicated RS-232-C port provides a simple serial link to commissioning software or plant networks. The unit can be installed in ambient temperatures from 5 to 45 °C and at elevations up to 1000 m above sea level without output reduction; operating outside these limits requires derating or additional cooling. Such planning preserves motor life and maintains process quality.
