Bosch Rexroth Indramat’s KDA 3.3-100-3-LQD-W1 belongs to the KDA Spindle Drives series and represents the version-3 design generation. This spindle drive links a shared DC bus to a high-speed spindle motor, supplying regulated three-phase power under digital feedback control. Within automated machining centers it processes real-time speed and position references from the motion controller, closes its own current loop, and thereby enables precise cutting, drilling, or grinding operations without separate analog amplifiers.
The drive is energized from a nominal 300 VDC bus and can furnish a continuous phase current of 100 A to the motor windings. Internal heat is removed by a Forced Cooling scheme that relies on a heatsink blower fed by 220 V AC at 50–60 Hz, keeping semiconductor temperatures inside rated limits during heavy acceleration profiles. Command data reach the unit over the SERCOS Interface; fiber-optic telegrams carry velocity setpoints directly into the digital control section, eliminating conversion noise and allowing deterministic response. These power, cooling, and communication provisions give the drive the electrical headroom required for rapid spindle run-up and deceleration in production environments.
Ambient constraints permit operation between 5 to 45 °C, and performance remains stable up to 1000 m above sea level without derating. For orientation tasks, a separate channel accepts a digital position command value, so the spindle can lock at defined angles during tool changes. Continuous airflow from the mounted heatsink blower sustains thermal equilibrium even in compact cabinets. By combining these environmental, interface, and cooling capabilities within a single 3-series frame, the drive streamlines cabinet design and supports long duty cycles in machining lines that must hold tight tolerances despite fluctuating shop-floor conditions.
