The KDA 3.3-150-3-DPS-U1 spindle drive is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the KDA Spindle Drives series. This power module links the machine controller to a high-speed spindle motor, converting digital setpoints into regulated torque and speed. Within automated machining centers it controls acceleration, braking, and steady-state rotation so cutting tools maintain consistent surface speed for dimensional accuracy. Direct acceptance of high-resolution command words allows straightforward integration with CNC systems.

The drive receives a DC link of 300 VDC, which supplies the intermediate-circuit energy for its IGBT bridge and returns excess kinetic energy to the bus. Its continuous output capability is 150 A, sufficient for large induction or synchronous spindles without semiconductor saturation. Thermal design assumes an ambient window of 5 to 45 °C; inside this range nominal current is delivered without derating. Installation is permitted up to 1000 m above sea level, keeping air-cooling density and partial-discharge behavior within safe margins. Speed reference data arrives through a digital 16-bit parallel interface, giving the numerical control word-level resolution for velocity loops and orientation commands.

Auxiliary cooling is handled by a heatsink blower powered from 115 V/50-60 Hz, so cabinet builders only need a standard single-phase source for fan operation. The blower is fixed to the rear mounted heatsink, and airflow is classified as forced cooling, continuously drawing ambient air across the fins. A built-in serial channel using RS-232-C permits parameter adjustment and diagnostic capture from a laptop or HMI. For machines that rely on spindle-synchronized axes, the unit offers a second encoder socket for spindle or additional motor feedback. Internally this model is cataloged as Series 3, identifying its control firmware and power-stage revision within the KDA family.
