The RD41.1-6B-100-L drive controller is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the RD 500 Drive Controllers series. It functions as the power conversion stage between a plant’s three-phase supply and an AC motor, delivering vector-controlled voltage and frequency so conveyors, pumps, and forming equipment maintain commanded speed and torque. By combining pulse-width-modulated IGBT output with regenerative handling circuitry, the unit gives automation engineers a compact means of governing high-inertia loads and capturing braking energy for reuse.

Its rated output of 100 kW defines the continuous mechanical power that can be applied to the motor shaft. A DC link capacity of 200 A supports rapid current surges during acceleration without saturating the intermediate circuit. The controller ties directly to a 3-Phase 400 V AC mains, and an input window of ±15% allows operation on grids that fluctuate above or below nominal voltage. Compatibility with 50/60 Hz line frequency lets the same hardware serve installations worldwide. Because the internal bus follows the incoming line without additional regulation, response to regenerative energy is immediate, streamlining system design.

Additional features support installation and thermal management. An integrated braking chopper diverts excess energy during deceleration and pairs with a minimum external resistor of 3.75 Ω to avert DC over-voltage. Heat produced in high-duty cycles is expelled by forced air cooling, so cabinets must provide clear airflow across the 240 mm-wide, 360 mm-deep housing that stands 500 mm high. Even with this footprint, the assembly weighs only 36 kg, allowing a single technician to panel-mount the unit with standard hardware. These hardware choices shorten commissioning time and enable rapid stop-start cycles without supplementary converter modules.
