The RZW01.1-022-NNN is a braking resistor manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RZW Braking Resistors series. In automated drive systems the unit is wired across the DC bus so that kinetic energy returned from fast-stopping servo axes is converted into heat instead of elevating the intermediate-circuit voltage. This passive component therefore safeguards inverters and connected motors against overvoltage events that occur during rapid deceleration or load reversals.

The resistor carries a continuous dissipation capability of 22 kW, while its element presents a resistance value of 11.7 Ω; together these figures determine the power–temperature profile that must be considered when sizing cabinet ventilation. Field wiring is completed on C-F screw terminals, allowing straightforward loop-through of the brake circuit. The protective earth must be landed with a conductor cross-section of 10 mm², equivalent to AWG 6, to keep touch voltages within safety limits. Because the body heats during duty cycles, Bosch Rexroth specifies that the protective conductor connection remains shorter than phase leads so fault currents reach ground through the lowest impedance path.

The hardware is supplied in Design 1, which defines enclosure geometry and mounting slot positions, and it belongs to product Line 1, ensuring dimensional consistency across similarly rated resistors. Its thermal utilization pattern follows the ED classification, meaning the resistor is intended for periodic braking sequences rather than continuous duty; allowable on-time and cool-down intervals must be respected to prevent element fatigue. When these naming codes are matched correctly to the drive controller’s discharge profile, the resistor operates within temperature limits and maintains predictable braking torque for the connected motion axes.
