MSD Permanent Magnet Motors

MSD Permanent Magnet Motors are Bosch Rexroth Indramat synchronous direct-drive motors used in industrial converter-driven axis systems where the motor is built directly into the machine structure. The series includes multiple motor designs and connection arrangements, including connector-based and terminal-box versions, with model-dependent protection up to IP65 for sealed industrial installations. Cooling is selected by application, with liquid-cooled variants requiring a closed coolant circuit and heat exchanger, while self-cooled versions support simpler machine layouts. For controlled operation, MSD motors are paired with a motor feedback system and can be configured with a holding brake when the axis requires standstill holding. Key identification, electrical data, and mechanical ratings are provided on the stator type plate. The motor insulation is designed for inverter operation, but when MSD motors are used with non-Rexroth controllers, the installation must still control pulse-voltage rise at the motor terminals to prevent excessive stress on the winding insulation.
