Bosch Rexroth Indramat produced the CML20.1-NP-120-NA, a control main unit in the CML IndraControl Hardware series. The device serves as the central processor inside modular automation racks, coordinating motion, safety, and I/O tasks for drives and peripheral modules on the same bus. By combining a dedicated CPU with volatile and non-volatile memory, the unit executes PLC programs and exchanges data with higher-level supervisory systems during continual industrial operation.
At its core, the unit employs an STMicroelectronics ST40 processor clocked at 192 MHz; this frequency defines how many instruction cycles the controller completes each second, influencing scan time and response. The onboard dynamic memory is a single bank of 16 MB DRAM, sufficient for medium-sized logic, buffer, and visualization tasks. For power-off data retention it carries 64 kB of NvRAM, allowing recipes, counters, and fault logs to survive shutdowns. System communication with decentralized drives and I/O takes place over a PROFIBUS interface, so telegrams follow a master/slave structure with token passing. This hardware combination supports closed-loop control where cycle time, program space, and fieldbus bandwidth must stay synchronized.
Mechanical and environmental characteristics complement the electronic profile. The electronics are cooled passively because the model is supplied without a fan; this reduces maintenance requirements but means enclosure airflow must be considered during cabinet design. Its Inline housing aligns the terminal connectors and the fieldbus port on a single plane, enabling side-by-side mounting with other modules of the same width. Hardware revision coding identifies CPU design variant 1, ensuring firmware images compiled for that variant initialize the correct peripheral map. Within the CML IndraControl Hardware family it occupies the Series 20 performance tier, a level that omits dedicated SRAM, so no battery-backed static memory is present. These attributes allow the controller to serve positioning and packaging applications where cabinet space and wiring simplicity are priorities.
